Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith, What a Show!
Mel and I went to see a concert last night that we have been looking forward to for a long time, Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith. It was an early Valentine’s Day date. I’m an Aerosmith fan which is why I got the tickets as soon as they became available. Mel is a Lenny Kravitz fan which is why she agreed to come with me.
This was by far one of the best shows that I have been to see in recent years, possible ever. That’s saying alot since I have been to see folks like Carlos Santana, and Sarah McLaughlin during the past year.
Lenny started the show with about 90 minutes of funk and rock. I was impressed. Maybe in part because I expected to be unimpressed. I’m not a big fan. His performance was just flawless. At one point he left the stage and walked around the entire floor of the arena. Since Mel and I had first row seats in the first tier, she was able to touch him as he walked by. She was very excited and probably would have gone home with him had he asked.
I was a little worried about Aerosmith when they first started up. Steven Tyler is seriously beginning to show his age of 57. He has faired a bit better than some of the other band members, however. I must say he was a might weak at the beginning of the show, more talking than singing the words of the song. But he came on strong and managed to sing for about 2 hours. The only song I didn’t hear that I really wanted to was “Dude Looks Like a Lady“.
This show was well worth the money we spent, which was about $250 for the two of us. If you get a chance and if it’s not too late, pay the money. You won’t regret it.

I think I figured out how to do this comment thing.
Wil and I also went to the concert. Wil’s first “real” concert (he is an Aerosmith fan, but became a Lenny Kravitz fan). We didn’t have tickets (I even tried craig’slist), but on a whim, drove up anyway to see if we could get them outside of the stadium. I’ve never done that before, so that was part of the adventure. I figured, at the least, we could say we tried over a wonderful dinner downtown.
We were able to get great seats (also in first tier). When Lenny left the stage and started walking through the audience, I was sold….told Wil that I’d never seen that kind of audience contact before.
My (albeit temporary) qualms about being an delinquent parent, keeping my 14-year-old out until 1 a.m. on a school night, were somewhat alleviated as I watched him while he was sat (completely unobstructed, as he had no seats in front of him) with the binoculars to his eyes and a silly grin on his face. When he jumped up and sang “Walk This Way” with 20,000 others, that was it for me.
I agree with your review, though I would add that Joe Perry was fabulous. Wil missed hearing “Rag Doll”
Wil’s take on the whole thing? Said with a wide-eyed sense of shock and awe, “Not too bad, for a first concert.”
Then he added, “Bon Jovi is coming in March. Can we try this again?”
Ah…a rock and roll fan is born (again).
Thanks for the comment, Sharon! Great to see you here.
It WAS a great concert! I went to the Portland show (as well?). They were great. I go to tons of concerts but had yet to see them before. A friend and I are planning on stalking … errr, I mean … following …them around on tour. Actually, just Joe Perry. (Shhh, don’t tell! ;))
Tons of pics from the show on my site if you’re interested…
p.s. nice blog. Sending good thoughts for your dad.
Excellent pictures! Thank you! (yes I was at the portland show too.)
I saw Aerosmith in 1987 for the first time. They were awesome. I did, however, think they were tired then. Dokken opened for them and they were as loud a band as I’ve seen since standing in from of the amps at Hank Williams III’s show in D.C. a few year’s ago…
Glad you got to see them….dont’ know if I’d want to now.
