Goodbye to 2005

Mel and I are spending this holiday apart because of my wonderful job. She is partying in Eugene with our friends while I stayed home to work until 10:00 and spend the rest of my evening blogging. Not that I don’t enjoy talking to all of you, mind you. It’s just one more reason to be bitter I guess. Nice way to start the year, eh? I miss her tonight, like most nights. I remember when my job was something I loved and looked forward to, now it is mostly a burdon.

It’s not all bad, I suppose. It has been a really good year overall. Next year promises to be even better if we can manage to keep our resolutions. We have both agreed to eat healthier and exercise more. We’ve already looked into the gym up the street and I’m researching cookbooks.

I’m going to go drink a beer to celebrate and then wait for Mel to call me at midnight. Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for reading my blog. Stop by again soon, I’m sure to be in a better mood next time.

Christmas with Cats

One of the reasons Mel and I didn’t have a Christmas tree this year (or the last 2 years) is that we have two adorable cats. Well … one is somewhat adorable, the other is somewhat demonic. Both would be inside the tree having ornament fights in a matter of seconds. Not fun.

I saw an interesting, if a bit strange, solution to this problem this morning. You should see it for yourself. Read Bizzi Mom’s December 23, 2005 post to see how they kept the cats out of the tree this year.

Hey, I’m Smart! Who Knew?

Ever taken one of those online IQ tests? This one is very similar to the pen and paper one I took a few years ago. Sadly, I scored higher then, but still not too shabby. Try it yourself and see how you measure up.

Here’s my results:

Jeffrey, your IQ score is 135

Jeffrey, your IQ score is significantly above average. Congratulations! You have a wide range of exceptional skills which are much stronger than those of the average population. You are also skilled at answering the types of questions that are asked in a classic IQ test. The test analyses your strengths and weaknesses based on your mathematical, linguistic, visual-spatial and logical skills. Even though you have high scores in all of those areas, we are able to analyse your results to discover the areas in which you have the strongest abilities.

Your mind’s strengths allow you to think ahead of the game — to imagine or anticipate what should come next in just about any situation. Because you’re equally skilled in the numerical and verbal universes of the brain, you can draw from multiple sources of information to come up with great ideas. The timelessness of your vision and the balance between your various skills are what make you a Visionary Philosopher.

In addition to your strengths in maths and linguistics, you have a knack for matching and anticipating patterns. These skills and your uncanny ability to detect the underlying blueprint of most of life’s situations add to your visionary philosopher mind. Two philosophers who share the same combination of skills you possess are Plato and Benedict Spinoza.

Interview Follow Up Follow Up

I received a letter from the State of Oregon thanking me for my time, but I was not chosen to fill the rotation position for Parole/Probation Officer.

On a happier note, I have another interview tomorrow morning for a Unit Coordinator’s position. This would be an actual promotion, not an underfill or a rotation. It’s the same job I was underfilling before, but in a different location. It’s in a whole different facility actually. If I get the job I would be working with younger boys, and possibly some girls . I am well qualified for the job, but as always it is hard to predict who else might be applying or if they already have someone in mind.

I will keep you up on this continuing saga as the details unfold.
